Transmission lines carry electricity from generating plants (hydroelectric, thermoelectric, thermonuclear and wind farms) to substations and distribution facilities.

Easements are areas next to metallic structures, like towers, are are needed to build, operate and maintain transmission lines. After transmission lines are deployed, land owners may use a share of the easement, subject to certain restrictions to ensure the safety of local residents, properties and businesses.

See below how easements are distributed:
 

Area A   53322a Around tower structures. Used to maneuver vehicles and equipment during maintenance works. Area B 3o4m2n Corridor located directly under the cables. Certain upgrades are allowed in these areas (see table below). Area C 33155v A strip of land that increases the total width of the easement.

Using these areas is not completely prohibited, however any activities must be analyzed and approved by FURNAS in advance.

Certain activities, such as horticulture, fruit farming, floriculture, corn, wheat and rice plantations, are allowed on B and C easements. Approval for any type of construction is based on where along it is located along the easement.
